outbreak of the War as carried out on behalf of the firm in the winding up

of the business at that date, and he has treated all business subsequently

transacted as done by him entirely on his own responsibility.

Kr. Rolf is wishful to transact the business in Hong Kong in the

ordinary seurue but it appears from communications received from his Manager there and from a letter dated the 11tn. of September last from the

Colonial Secretary at Hong Kong, that difficulties are placed in the

working of tae usual methods of business.

To understand that our Client explained the position to Mr. Tennyson at the Colonial Office on Friday last, and arranged to make this

application for a licence to trade.

There are contracts in the course of execution with persons, firms and companies in Yorkshire and Lancashire, and if these gooda sould not be taken up it would involve a serious loss not only to our Client but alse to the suppliers in England from whom the goods have bom purchased,
